Of Flowers And Their Power

Of flowers and their power
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I made four sets of flower arrangements on my son's 21st birthday
Spelling out LOVE and SEX AND WORK and PAY
Hoping that the latter would take precedence over the former
They take up space in the living room but bring golden sunshine into our lives;

A flower arrangement signifying Sunshine
Would have to have a lot of yellow flowers which shine down happily
And with dancing sunbeams
Which brings me to the thought that golden sunshine
Has to have Happiness and Laughter as accompanying flower arrangements;

Happiness means smiles
And a red chrysanthemum with a yellow centre
Like the one I have for the L in my LOVE
Would be very fine
Surrounded by other merry shades;

Laughter has the look of a rainbow
And if Judy Garland sang Over the Rainbow
As composed by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
I say laughter has the colours of a rainbow
And a centrepiece full of flowers of the seven colours
Would adorn any celebration;

I have pleasant memories of the old movie, Robert Rodriguez's Desperado
And the hero is a daring, musical character and this would mean a bough, tube rose or perfume king
And blue bells which have the feel of music being played
And the heroine is a beauty who has a passionate side
And this can be done with a red rose with lady's lace and tiger lilies;

Both Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek were a dream to watch
And it speaks volumes about my and my husband's love for each other
That we did not get swayed by the seducing power of the hero and heroine in real life
But now, dear reader, I say that Shakespeare is a substitute for sex
Since I have analyzed the figures of speech in pages 95 - 162 plus pg 183 and pg 222 and 223
In The Oxford Shakespeare's edition of his play, Love's Labours Lost;

I say that Shakespeare as a flower arrangement would have to have
The Flower, French Lingerie and tulips, the latter being a Freudian slip
For the male organ which surely flowers out when excited
And it would most certainly do so if it were to see me in French Lingerie
And don't bring in minor technical details saying my big, natural breasts
Would not go into a fine piece of French lace;

But I had wooed my husband with my keen interest in Pink Floyd songs and lyrics
And my husband is a changed man who thinks that the Radiohead are simply the best now
And I say that both their lyrics have a cryptic quality
And a flower arrangement must have layers of the pieces of the puzzling line revealed
And this is a big rhodendron
And I have made a painting of a lupin and a big rhodendron along with a saguaro
Under the blue sunny skies
For our two years of married life in Phoenix, USA were full of sunshine, happiness and laughter
As they continue to be now in beautiful Canada with our beloved son
And the invigorating cold of winter, the newness of spring, the exuberance of summer and the mellowness of autumn.
