I googled my heart out but found nothing extremely historical happening on that day. Reading it made me think of days in history that were monumental such as D-Day and Pearl Harbor but I found nothing for Jan.27,1795. So my best guess is that she is meditating on the evils of war in general and how they affect a day in the life of Amelia Opie.
