O The Poet: (Sonnet) Poem by DM W

O The Poet: (Sonnet)

O the poet is a prophet who understands
The changes on the wind and all the myriad things
That fill our hearts with sorrow! He perceives the sands
Of Time running through his fingers. He tends to sing
Of brief moments of beauty that sometimes emerge
In an ever darkening world. Like a candle flame,
He guides in nights of deep solitude. Some have heard
That his verses can confront existential pain
And transform darkness into light. Is he perhaps
A modern Orpheus with pen rather than harp
In hand? His words are like the constant waves that lap
Against the shore; gently do they flow. He throws darts
Of love into innocent and curious eyes.
O he symbolises spring as cruel winter dies!
