The history of nude in art dates back
to the Stone Age, with the female Venus figurines.
In Ancient Greek art unclothed human bodies
were commonly represented.
Later, artists, such as Botticelli, Michelangelo,
Durer, Titian, Rembrandt, Klimt and Modigliani
created celebrated nude paintings.
The difference between art and pornography
can be subtle. In the 19th century of France
Eduard Manet's Le Dejeuner sur l'herbe (1863)
created an extensive scandal by showing
a naked woman in the company of two
fully dressed men. Paris critics considered
the painting immoral.
The same model, Victorine Meurent,
is also the protagonist of anothe 1863 canvas
by Manet, Mademoiselle Victorine in he Costume
of an Espada (bull fighter matador) . This time the painting
caused a public visual shock because it showed
a woman holding a sword and cross-dressed
in a masculine manner.
