Nothing Remarkable Happened Today Poem by Richard Spisak

Nothing Remarkable Happened Today

Nothing remarkable happened today
As usual, all of the fascists came out to play
As usual, the brought all their ways toys
To take away as much as they could
Of your joys
They made sure, there was only enough food for some
They made sure all the broken ones were forced to run
They woke up the sleeping and threatened the poor
Making sure they were homeless
And locked from their doors
They made sure very few sick
Got a hold of their medicine
Cranking up all their pain
Without any reticence
They broke down the schools
And closed all the hospitals
In case any victims could afford what it cost in em

The orphans were driven out in the field
In case their frail bodies, might improve the crops yield
And now that the children work in the factories, at least this way Becky's Mom, Mrs Thackery won't have to worry about cave-ins with that ner do well Tom, at lastery

But somebody stood and spoke
And the fascists jeered
And called them woke
