We eat so well!
Our silver is the finest!
The freshness of our beach cottage remodel
is astounding to us and the community!
What could be more important,
now that you are dying?
Are you keeping your weekly appointments
for the pedicure and the hair styling?
How badly do you want to finish
your opus?
Does anyone but me care?
What will the grandkids know of us?
How about their kids?
Will there be any silver left to hand down?
Perhaps the best legacy is one of invisibility?
Let not our lives span the generations
like a life giving magnet, pulling others
into our 'what was' and bringing us back to life.
Let's fade
Let's be candles
There is no shame in a candle's life
Let's not be the Cola in life's mug,
months later, feeding flies, with no human interest,
but still around
Let's encourage our kids to change their names.
Their life is theirs and not at all ours.
May they not live our life
and may their kids not live theirs
and may we be the kids of our grandkids
and keep evolving to freedom!
Perfectly free
when we exist
not at
all
An interesting but depressing point of view. Marcus Aurelius wrote pretty much the same thing long ago.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
In 2013, I wrote a poem, titled, Y/ Dead or alive, about the same topic from a slightly different viewpoint. The way I see it, is that the care we give, will be what will be passed on. Not in our name, but that is how love is increasing bit by bit in the world. I received so much care and love of my mother, I tend to pass it on in my family life and professional life. The receivers may pass it on to many others without even knowing about the existence of my mom, but what she has done for her family, the goodness, somehow is what will still count a hundred years for now, not only for her great grand children but for the world. A small soft spot deep inside of my believes firmly that every simple kind act done has the potential to cause an avalanche of kindness in this wonderful world. Interesting and thought provoking poem, my friend.
