Not Quite Right Poem by Richard D Remler

Not Quite Right

.......

I did not get the answer right.
But I sure tried.
I did my calculations
Incorrectly on the side.

And I think I made
A dreadful err,
And fudged up on
My answer there.

And lost a point,
Or two, or three.
Oh, my Teacher
Was not pleased
With me.

What I meant to do,
As you can see
Was take these numbers
Given me,

And put them here,
Right on that X,
No need to make it
Too complex.

I simply should
Have added ten,
And subtracted nine,
Or twenty then.

And when that fidged,
As well it would,
And I was settled
Rather good,

I'd have multiplied
A two by three,
And my Teacher,
She'd be proud of me.

And all my digits,
They'd be right.
Not like the mess
They are tonight!

My Teacher would
Have cheered my name,
With honored accolades
Of acclaim.

But I lost my five,
My two, my three.
I couldn't multiply
The Z.

Or subtract the dot
Plus eight percent.
And I haven't one clue
Where it went.

And that is why I fidgeled so.
Fillywagging the entire show.
Those numbers put up such a fight,
I could not get the answer right!
