Not Meant To Be Poem by Ray Hansell

Not Meant To Be

I happen to see you today
Walking along the street
I was so very happy
That we would chance to meet

When we saw each other
Our eyes grew open wide
It was our excitement
That neither one could hide

It had been a while
Since our eyes had met
Knowing that what we shared
We will never forget

But it seemed like something
Inside of me was amiss
It's been such a long time
That I have felt like this

To be completely honest
I no longer feel the same
I don't want to say
That anyone is to blame

It seems the time between us
Has driven us apart
Inside my heart I believe
That we should both be smart

I believe we are better off
Staying where we are
I know it may sound funny
It may even seem bizarre

But what I once felt for you
It's not there anymore
I feel that long ago
We got what we asked for

You called an end to us
You made it very clear
That any time for us
Was no longer here

So, I have to tell you
Let's just leave it this way
I feel for you and I
This is the better way

So I wish for you
Nothing but the best
But I think the time is now
That we put us to rest

The love we use to share
Was truly a great love
But it's no longer you
That I always think of

That's not a bad thing
So, please don't take it wrong
But I believe us together
Is a place where we don't belong
