Shoes as a symbol of wealth and equality do a great job of making the issue tangible for the reader. The expression in your writing brings a nice level of sensitivity and the narration of the perspective from mother and child pulls at the reader's heartstrings as well as awareness. I like the way you pull in color, colloquial expression, and dialogue. Thanks for sharing your work.
