Not Even In Death Poem by Joanna Hamilton

Not Even In Death

Rating: 5.0

You know the silence that covers the graves?
It covers the soul as well;
Dragging you down into the darkness
That buries the dead again,
And again.
In the earth the dirt falls,
The bodies rise up.
It all makes sense,
To the living dead -
Walking in silence,
Living in darkness -
The shadows press in upon them,
Leaving the imprint behind:
The bruises
Beneath the eyes,
The shadows upon the chins.
The blood upon the wounds
Scabs over and
Seals the heart
Off from the world
Of pain,
Of joy,
Of anything and
Everything
That once mattered so much to us all.
They mean nothing
If life is gone.
If one fellow dies
Then all was in vain.
For life is important,
And death is
Inconceivable.
To anyone
Who wishes to live,
A team effort must keep you alive.
You are not alone anymore,
You will never be alone again,
You will always have protection,
That is what we offer.
A family that you don’t even
Know, yet you trust
With your life.
And who wouldn’t?
Trained as were are,
Trained as we were,
We are here to protect you and
Take care of you always.
You will never be alone,
Not even in death.
