night of the generals
the night is tense
the curfew stiffens
like us the citizens watch
in disbelief
what is happening to society
rest assured we're still in power
what this night will reveal
more arrests the judgements passed
we quell the storm
a storm we upheld for now
for country
and what it might hold
the culture the sagesse
alas our efforts fall short
the storm is rising
our pulse quickens
as we ride the midnight hours
waiting and making our report of the day
troubles brewing that is sure
all we can do to head it off
there is no peace at last
the great society
is falling through to the day
of citizenry anew, new souls, new regimes
