Advice to Young Poets
by Nicanor Parra Sandoval
translation by Michael R. Burch

Youngsters,
write however you will
in your preferred style.
Too much blood flowed under the bridge
for me to believe
there's just one acceptable path.
In poetry everything's permitted.

Beautiful freedom of thought and feeling for the written word. The liberty, but also the responsibility, that nothing else has. Should be used wisely following every individual's thought and path. A wonderful translation, of a wonderful poem

Thanks Sandra, I'm glad you liked my translation. And I think it's good advice for younger poets to embrace tolerance and diversity in their craft, avoiding dogmatism.
