Ngozi Poem by Uche Nwanze

Ngozi

All I ever asked for I got double
Two peas in a pod
Double blessing or double for your trouble
I asked for a hill you gave me a mountain
I wanted a hive you bequeathed me a colony
I yearned for a morsel you fed me a loaf
I prayed for dew you bathe with rains
Out of the cocoon of obscurity you break into limelight
From the crevice of the celestial you break out into the terrestrial
I wished for a ray of sunshine he gave me glimmerl
I longed for a meal, you prepared for me a banquet
I wanted to laugh, you made my joy know no bounds
The gods hath paid my toils with a rich harvest
I asked if I could walk, wings to fly I was gifted
I wanted my voice to be heard, you made me roar
I deserved just a handshake, I received a hug
I begged for a wish, you made me ride on a horse
If I could just wear a hat, you adorned with a crown
For too long the clutches has been my companion, you coronate me with a sceptre
Life has gifted me more than I ever deserve
