News This Morn Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

it started with soft sounds

it taps softly against the window
it sounds so patient

it stays on all the time
it taps the window gently

i didn't look back or up
so perfectly rhythmically too

you can sing for it
or compose a song
do i want to suggest something here?
i don't think so

ordinary observation notes

it is snowing in the west of the country
they say code yellow
we have code red here

dunno what the difference is or what it means

it ticks all day long
it does not matter

i make a virtue of necessity
i still 'belong' to the youth

in terms of being comfortable and satisfied,
i mean

it is very cozy inside by the fireplace
cozy in the woods
the mansion lies in the woods
but alas, there's no any robin hood
so no sherwood

i can listen to the taps against the window for weeks
listen without being forced to

because inside it is cozy
and very very cozy

I just have to call
and breakfast will be delivered

important news this morn
countless accidents happen on the A12
because of black ice
in 50 different places
through the whole country
the nearest is Arnhem
a truck collided against a passenger car
the driver of the car has been urgently admitted
at the nearest hospital
because the truck hit so hard against the passenger's car,

it was such havoc across the country
only because of black ice
and what havoc in California, in North America
a very large part of the highway has disappeared to the sea, no one was injured

it is called Highway One, yes yes the famous one, i had driven on it years ago, i could not have imagined then
that a large stretch of highway will disappear to the ocean
due to the persistent bad weather, very scary to see,
no one is hurt, i must say this is God's great miracle

back to that tapping softly against the window

it sounds so beautifully rhythmic
so patient
you can make it into a rap or is it a different beat?
I do not know,
at least it sounds cozy,
in closing i thank God for this beautiful morning
