New Zealand Road Trip 2014 (Pt 3) Poem by Alison Gaff

New Zealand Road Trip 2014 (Pt 3)

We stayed two nights at an eco lodge
Set deep amongst the trees
We played scrabble in the evenings
And watched the sunset - what a breeze
We were so close to nature here
That a family of Wekas' came to call
Fantails followed us as we explored
But sadly gales had caused many trees to fall

Now it's onwards to Good Shepard Church
So quaint, pretty and serene,
It's set beside Lake Takepo
And at night a million stars are seen.
We've book to visit the Artic Centre
To see how Penguins live and thrive
We did the blizzard experience
And wonder how these little birds survive

A small plane takes us for a Whale watch
Out over Kiakoura Bay
We saw an awesome Fin Whale
And with its' huge tail it did display,
Then it's off to Orana Wildlife Park
With animals from far off lands
But the most amazing thing of all
Was feeding Giraffes and Lions by hand

Our balloon trip first got cancelled
But later we were cleared to go
We helped to set-up and put away
And how we loved it so
Once the burners ceased their roar
We drifted silently on the breeze
And now we're all ballooniacs
We gently land beyond the trees

Christchurches Cathedral came tumbling down
The day the earthquake stuck
But they've built another one out of card
Lets hope it has more luck
The shopping malls have been replaced
By containers used as shops
There are still road-works everywhere
And the re-building never STOPS! ! !
