New Zealand, A European Country? Poem by Hebert Logerie

France is a European country.
England is a European country.
Germany is a European country.
New Zealand, a European country?
When? Just like America. New Zealand
Was first inhabited by the Polynesians,
Between twelve fifty and thirteen fifty.
New Zealand should be everybody's land.
She does not belong only to the Caucasians.
A Dutch explorer, Abel Tasman was the first
European to set foot there in sixteen forty two.
New Zealand is located in the South Western Pacific
Ocean. New Zealand belongs to all human beings
And is one of the last lands to be settled by humans.

In eighteen forty, it became a colony of the British
Empire, who in mani military took over the territory.
We all know what that means. It became a dominion
Of the British Empire thereafter, earned "full statutory
Independence in 1947" and the British monarch
Remained the head of state. New Zealand has no
Fixed date of independence. Don't we all know what
That means. Its independence is a matter of continued
Academic, social and international debate. Whoever has
The biggest gun rules. That's how it has been yesterday
And it is the same way today. Most of us don't know Jean
De la Fontaine, a French writer, poet and story teller
Who has said: ‘ La raison du plus fort est toujours la meilleure'
That means: ‘The reason of the strongest is always the best'
History seems to repeat itself; that's another fabricated story.
