New Years Eve 2018 Poem by Kevin Patrick

New Years Eve 2018

Tonight, is disguised with diamonds
of illuminating cities
flickering with pomp and circus swamps
from New York to Hong Kong
their streets clogged with times disciples
stirring beneath electric cathedrals

lanes, squares, and tourist ghetto blocks
are traffic jams of human mobs
Swelling in close proximity
like amoeba in a petri dish

Thousands, huddling in blithe procession
Under strobes professing crass confessions

Where sweethearts embrace their love on parade

and the timid tease boldness, quiet, unafraid

the atmosphere is buoyed with a haze of noise

and for one long minute, the worlds a cabaret

Balloons rain down in their multitudes
Pouring a neon ambience
Over the silent dancers, and miming crowds
In the streets of spilled confetti
And silver streams spaghetti
Carrying on in Caravans of gaudy glam

And we fidget like parishioners
Buoyed and in Unison
Like a ticking pendulum
Or swaying like a noose
Preying to a divinity
Of inevitable finite
In the black night, kid sister to deaths void

Waiting to exhale December
And breathe in January

Watching with fervor
The orbs measured figure
Descent like scythe
Reaping wastes of the year
The amorphous choirs
Weigh the mustached air
Their hearts in tuned
With the clocks in their skulls
As the disco ball hits
Billions scream in Tourette fits

Strangers who will never see each other
Sing together and hold hands
Held together on this earth
For a single moment
At one place
And time
In time

Waiting to exhale December And breathe in January..... Strangers who will never see each other Sing together and hold hands ...For a single moment Amazing poem. Isn't it a pity it only happens on New Years Eve?

That last stanza is a perfect image of a moment that holds so much promise. Let's hope it defines the rest of the year, if not Time.
