Never Go. Comments

I caught the title NEVER GO and it occurred to me that this may not be a love poem, but rather one of domination, in a relationship based on fear induced by threats. I certainly found the poem threatening when I first read it, but I BELIEVED it was an extreme expression of caring. But that's how abusive people see their role in the lives of their victims; they're duped by their own behavior into thinking they're protecting the ones they are terrorizing.When I read the last line now, I can't get past the feeling of menace in it. So -? ?

WOW! This is really an extreme statement of LOVE - The quatrain stanza with rhyme makes it sneak up on me but the bold statements make my head spin. I wonder, what is the token of her he is carrying if cutting off his hand is his token to her? Or I could stop my mental pictures of the scene and just deal with the details as metaphorical. In which case the description would be intense language but not actual actions. I'm uncertain, and the poem is too brief for me to look for other clues.
