Skandamata is the Mother of Skanda
Or the handsome Kartikeya
Who rides resplendently on a Peacock,
Who is seated majestically on a mountain,
A worrier of great strength and power,
A Commander in Chief
To fight a war against injustice and crime
To vanquish evil demons and devils.
Skandamata stands powerfully behind
Her brave son as a strong armour.
O Devi Skandamata!
Seated as Padmasani on a beautiful lotus
Strengthen my hands and legs with energy,
That I may be able to fight the worst of enemies,
And emerge victorious like your son Kartikeya,
Ever protected by your divine grace bestowed on me.
How beautifully you have explained the 'mahatmya' or the grandeur of Devi Skandmata and her son the great Kartikeya. I am sure most of the readers are not familiar with these stories. The worship of Skandamata on the fifth day of Navaratri Festival is an essential part of an ancient tradition. Thanks, Geeta ji.
