National Pastime Poem by Ray Hansell

National Pastime

Rating: 5.0

I've had this love for baseball
Ever since I was a child
I get great enjoyment at a game
It always makes me smile

What I like most of all
Is going to a game in person
With people screaming all around
A few of them even cursing

The cheering of the crowd
The lushness of the grass
I like a game that takes a while
I never like a game too fast

The crack of the bat
The flight of the ball
Watching as it descends
Over the outfield wall

The player trotting around the bases
As his team in the dugout applauds
Rounding third heading home
He has aided his teams cause

They appear headed for victory
To the home fans satisfaction
As they chase down the first place team
They must do it without distractions
