Named Poem by My song Resound

Named

What's in a name?
I have never really felt like I owned one
To me, it is just a description to refer to a specific person
It does not define a person
Though strangely, people started becoming their name

I once knew a girl named Abigail
She was sweet, kind, demure, and beautiful
Though she had awful taste in men,
And a heart filled with romance
Easy to influence, but still righteous
We drifted apart when I changed schools
And I met another Abigail soon after
They looked entirely different
But on the inside, they were very much alike
Just a difference of experience and environment set them apart
Still, they both sure had bad taste

Then there's these guys named Carl
They both had the same name, but that didn't bother them all that much
They were both quiet, mischievous, and very much endearing, charming lads
But the popularity does get to their heads
One was more outward and outgoing, though still quiet and bright
The other an introvert and an excellent listener, though he has this playboy side
Then I knew a Carlo, and I guess you know how that went

I'd see traces of people I know in strangers
It makes me have a preconceived notion of them
But they are not their names, as I am not
It just tells me more of who they are
It is not a label, but at the same time it is
Though it tells me who they are, they are not their names
It sounds confusing, but this is how names are to me
I never did mention mine, did I?
I am named Nicole, though no one knows why.
