Naadam Fair Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Naadam Fair

Rating: 5.0

Mongolian people, so joyful and friendly
Gathered yearly for the Naadam Fair
Showing sporting skills
Archery, horse racing, wrestling, shooting
Greatest horsemen in the world.

Guests from far away countries
Greeted by smiling girls in traditional costume
Made welcome with glass of wine
Hunting displays with Golden Eagles
Yurts, homes in which people live on grasslands.

Grandest grassland festival
Dating back to thirteenth century
Sharing the joy of the year's harvest
With skills and athletic prowess
Mongolian chess, horse riding parades.

Fairs for visiting tourists
With folk songs and dancing
Fashion shows and wedding ceremonies
New friendships made
With memories inspiring the heart.
