Ezra Pound told T. S. Eliot that a poem can have a genuine impact on a reader even if he does not fully understand it. Sic. I really like THIS poem! but I don't fully understand it. I made a copy to look at later when perhaps my understanding will be more supple. Right now I am gioing to re-read it. Just a minute. //The first half is filled with incidents/images of a satisfying sharing of true romance, which climax in an awesome expression of love as union: I AM YOUR BREATH, etc. (simply beautiful!) But it seems the woman is more attuned to commitment than the man. And the last phrase - YOUR PROMISE - suggests the fullness of love has not been achieved. But at least the woman is fully engaged and ready to make this a PERMANENT Love Story. Your poem touches my heart, it is the sweet song of longing for true romance which is a defining aspect of our humanity. Maynit prosper in real life as it prospers in this wonderful poem.
