My Trust In You Poem by Angela Bontle Ditumiso

My Trust In You

Sometimes I'm small boat
Lost in a furious sea
fight fighting to clench me in its hand
and break me in half
only to bury me at the bottom of an ocean
where I would learn how to be a fossil
But you, God continue to fish me out of my troubles

God, I will continue to put my trust in you
For You are a great God
You are a great hand uprooting me from every warzone
planting me in sanctuaries and safe houses

Sometimes I confuse my body for a shield
try to catch all the bullets with my torso
how I forget that I'm merely human
But God, You continue to pour me with Your love
You continue to teach me who I am
but mostly You continue to teach me who You are
