My Soul Insists. Poem by Driss Ezzireg

My Soul Insists.

Rating: 5.0

My soul insists
I go to Paradise
If Paradise exists.
I have done enough good things,
She thinks, in my short humble life
To deserve a place in Paradise.
A righteous life I have led; she said.
Cats and dogs I have fed;
Warm tears I have shed
Over the living and the dead.
Mother Nature I have esteemed,
My life throughout's been redeemed
And my heart she's won forever!
Tyrants and despots I have fought
Noble Ideals I've always sought.
To make humans' lives better
With decent shelter, drinks and food
I readily cloned to Robin Hood.
My conscience I tried to soothe
From filthy torture's carved wounds
So deep in my holy humanness.
And my soul insists
I go to Heaven
If Heaven exists.
Women's hearts I've easily won;
Lusciously owned and cowardly disowned.
Books I have learned for no obvious end.
Lies I have proffered; wily smiles offered.
Children I've harshly scorned
For futile reasons, wrongly adorned.
Yet my soul persists
In believing
I'll be leaving
For Paradise
If Paradise exists.
