That's my last Duchess painted on the wall,
Looking as if she were alive. I call
That piece a wonder, now: Fr Pandolf's hands

A true joy to reread this greatest masterpiece in Dramatic Monologue all times. Only Browning could do this.
Great Classic poem of the day. Only Robert Browning could write such a masterpiece! A true to read this poem time and again. Browning is the greatest dramatic monologue poet all times. Such a fantastic ironic monologue by the duke, his late wife hanging in fresco upon his bed with his new wife.
this poem was for the day of the 17th - it is now the 19th and it's still poem of the day for the 17th. this site is badly managed. poems of the day do not get updated properly anymore and keep falling days behind. i'm quitting this site i think.
Congratulations being chosen as The Classic Poem Of The Day! Sheer fun and humor in this brilliant poem 5 Stars!
Very humorous poem, a dramatic monologue of the Duke himself about his late wife The Duchess of Ferrara. True humorous since the Duchess was in fresco and so you cannot move the painting from the wall. An exellent poem from Browning, the greatest dramatic monologue poet of his time
This is a meaningful poem from the great poet world loves. The Dutches and here caricature explained well in the poem. Only the great poetic talent can write such a beautiful poem so loves.
She IS Lucrezia Borgia, Duchess of Ferrara, the Title Role of a Donizetti's opera. She smiles in the painting for ever, that is an inverted Mona Liza. She is painted on the wall in his upstairs bedroom, his new wife shall see his true wife at night, but You cannot move the painting out, because it is a fresco, which was painted in a day.
superb great and fantastic dramatic monologue excellent and fabulous poetic expression
Very long, but the dramatic monologue gives more than a glimpse of the character of the Duke, who is the only speaker. The Duke is speaking of his late wife, in a critical way, not mourning for her. An example of Browning's consummate mastery of the dramatic monologue form, in which he has no equals.
Only genius can subtly show someone with his head stuck far up his own, he can't breathe properly this well with just the right amount of grandiose.
he is stupid he told the listener that he killed the duchess and that he is threatening anyone who looks at her
This is a great piece if work... when I learnt the background story I literally fall in love with this poem.
Most deserving CLASSIC POEM OF THE DAY! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FAMILY OF THE LATE POET.
