ANOTHER VIEW: This poem reflects the tensions between Australia's emerging national identity and its colonial past. The speaker's pride in his country is met with the cousin's dismissive remarks, highlighting the cultural divide between the two.

SEVENTEEN Quatrains, almost an epic poem, longwinded but with style. A cosy poem but very cruel. TOP Marks 5 Stars

Your cousin was doing too much to hurt your patriotic feelings and self respect. It was good you left him alone in the jungle to salvage your pride.May this story be imaginary, but in such situations one might react this way!

In this almost epic poem, in satirical style, you could also call it ironic, the poet has killed his cousin, I notice in the very last sentence. Long-winded but well expressed, a surprising ending.

Of the Abbey. Nice work with the muse of a culture.

Well written, but a bit melodramatic for my taste.
