Mother
By Paul Sebastian

Eden's Eve, God created
Saw it was good
Mother, He embodied
For motherhood

Mother embodied love
Love planted her need
To procreate, to bring me forth
In love, I was conceived

Love possessed her for nine months
She endured enormous discomfort
Her total being focused on growing son
Passionately awaited for my birth

Incredibly suffered my birth
Joyfully celebrated my arrival
Her life changed, then forth
Her heart beat for my survival

Fed by her full breast
Contended I slept
Ensured I had my best
Her love grew my steps

Mother mothered me to who I am
She was quick to answer my cry
My character she had formed
My emotions swing, she plied

At her feet, I carefully grew
Her angel-like eyes guarded me
Told stories, sang songs she knew
Weaving spirituality, my best be

My mother taught me prayers
Implanted in me the fear God
Taught me to acknowledge all His ways
Telling me, God is at all times, good

My mother taught me to cook,
Pushed me to work hard
Inculcating wisdom; to do all I could
Harsh discipline, yet I never took to heart

Made me believe in myself
Made me see beyond who I was
Wielded me through love
Forever, would her heart I bless

I thank God for the gift of my mother
Prayed every day, emulated Mother Mary
I thank God for the Holy Spirit in her
She will always live on, in my memory

My mother, bless her soul!
