Morning Thoughts Poem by Richmon Rey Jundis

Morning Thoughts

The sun was still stretching out,
Roosters were still whispering,
It's 5 AM.
Bed lamp was left on,
Fan was humming,
Early birds were chirping,
When footsteps woke me up,
fading away from the dorm
In the corridors of the 3rd floor building.

It was the second day of academic-year
Summer vacation.
Some of my brothers left with notice,
Some without any word of goodbye.

It's the truth of life,
People come without any notice,
They can also leave without notice.
But I hope
You find it peaceful
To leave your friends behind
Without goodbyes.

Now, as I sit alone
Early in the morning
With a brewed coffee in a brown mug,
Beside me on the wooden bench,
I stare down at the fountain
In the middle of the Atrium,
I hope that when I leave,
I leave without regrets,
Without leaving someone unnoticed behind.

May all who left remember
That the door who waved them goodbye
Are still wide open to welcome them
For someone inside is waiting
Sitting alone with a mug of brewed coffee
On a wooden old bench.
