More Or Less Poem by Anne Yun

More Or Less

Rating: 3.8

More than naked,
less than transparent.
The sunshine and the rain.
What can I rent?
Tomorrow is trafficked.

More than a story,
less than a fact.
The lover and the beloved.
How should I react?
Yesterday is a history.

More than a presence,
less than a moment.
The survivor and the dead.
Why must I consent?
Today is a practice.

This poem is an intentionally small scale masterpiece, but it is masterfully composed. I really like the opening two lines of each stanza with the repeated pattern. Each one made me stop the think about the distinction being drawn. And the stanzas' last line with the progression of TOMORROW, YESTERDAY, etc.is so perceptive. This is a gem of a lyric poem. You compress so much meaning in the fewest possible words! !

Really nice poem, choosing is a skill so few manage to accomplish wisely.
