Moon-Lit Stretch Of Lake Poem by Felix Bongjoh

Moon-Lit Stretch Of Lake

(i)

Wrinkles pull water.
Knot-head shrubs of flowered birds.
Storks waddle on bumps.

Gleamed elephant back
Rises. Reeds and leaves ride it.
Beamed seaweed spreads.

Avatar relaxed
Amid dwarf bristles and sparks
Planted sun threads weave.

Plastic beam wavelets:
Sky spread out on land, creases
Rolling, a thousand worms

Wriggling, flattened. Still.
Crowns of rays sink deep roots. Gold
Sunk deep down a bowl.

(ii)

Rays tunnel down grooves
Caved drowned bullion buried down:
Bait it, fish it out.

Sink light deep. Scoop out
Diamonds making lake glow, grow
A wallowing sheet.

The oracle swells
To float this stretched nylon sheet:
Toss me bread and cheese

On this dining deck,
An expanding table choked,
Flying quiet birds with forks.

After the meal, host
Asks "How were the spiced lamb chops? "
Only a lake bleats.
