Here the pattering and pounding of rain on the roof and window panes have suddenly electrified your gloomy mood to one of exuberant energy and your mind has begun dancing in tune with the Monsoon song! I have been struggling to find out a poem on which I haven't commented so far and finally came across this one! In our weariness and exhaustion, sometimes Nature and its wonderful phenomena can create a sudden upsurge of energy and cheer in us.

Stanza Three expresses the sheer joy of people when the monsoon breaks the heat and cooling rains fall. I love these images which link nature and humanity: I feel the freshness of trees within me. That sjhows a wonderful intimacy between the human being and the plant being. They suffered through drought together and now rejoice together. Modern city life separates so many people from the natural world and they have no way of feeling a kinship, uniting themselves and nature. This is modern alienation.

A positive approach to rains, so nicely painted by the poetess that the poem appears a rainbow to me.

The freshness of trees in me, drenched to the soul...... Writing such lines is such a joy, isn't it? To give birth to such beauty is an activity hard to surpass! ! ! You nailed a common experience that no one has put words to before- and then reading this, we know this is exactly the right words to portray what we've felt but did not have your talent to say it, Love this piece, Nosheen! 10+++++++++++++++++++++++

My favorite lines: I feel the freshness of trees in me / Drenched to the soul, with fragrance. I love the aroma of rainwater mixed with tree bark, and you evoked it for with the key words freshness and fragrance. And also the phrase DRENCHED TO THE SOUL shows the depth of appreciation for this feature of nature: just last week I sat on my balcony all through a shower, and smelled the wood/rain fragrance waft up to my place of rest. It was a richly sensory ex[perience but also felt on the soul-level as your poem reveals. Just wonderful writing, Nosheen! !

The urgency of life is washed away. Our thoughts and sad hearts are forgotten when the skies are filled with showers, each different in endurance, some with fury, some playful, others tease with misty spray and others rattle and threaten to test our shelter's foundation. No place to be, happily immersed in nature. We feel rooted like trees to reality. All philosophy and regret disappear as the rain skips or beats against the wind. I am always so pleased when a writing is equal to the beauty so oftentimes ignored or wished away. Your words run like raindrops along a windowpane. Joining together in perfect, natural rhythm....wondrous.

A beautifully expressive poem. I too love the rain. I love the line, I feel the freshness of trees in me. I imagine a maiden in the middle of the forest spinning as the rain falls on her, leaving droplets flying in the air. This is a poem of celebration, gratitude, and appreciation for nature. Well done. Thanks for sharing! :)

Hi Nosheen, A beautiful poem on all too common, by all-encompassing rain, reminding me of the much-acclaimed poem Raatri Mazha (The rain in the night) , by renowned Malayalam poet and nature-lover, Sugatha Kumari. She is a very famous writer in Malayalam, who has published may books of poems. And should-read! Try to get some translations in English or Urdu. She is a great environmentalist and humanist, much feared by politicians. Your poem, I enjoyed reading. The sound of rain is music to ears - conveys a lot of feelings, not just about rain, but life, music, stress et al. I feel the freshness of trees in me Drenched to soul with fragrance- exquisitely phrased. Reading it, the reader feels refreshed. Nice poem. Thank you for sharing.
