Monsoon In A Metropolitan City Poem by Namita Rani Panda

Monsoon In A Metropolitan City

Monsoon in a Metropolitan City
To feel the soothing sprinkle of love from heaven
I stretched my dry hands and my neck did I crane
Through the grill of my balcony
To enjoy the melodious pitter patter euphony
And smell the most cherished pleasant petrichor as in my village
But it's only a distant dream stored in my memory vintage
Like a helpless solitary captive in a zoo
I watched the expectant Earth to be relieved from the scorching woes

The sky kissing skyscrapers sucked villainously the lion's share from the first lot of rain
And sighed a sense of relief as if it's their monopoly to enjoy the first refreshing rain
The trees below raised and swayed their hopeful hands
Like the diligent farmers waiting for their entire season's gain
The leaves like lolling tongues thirsty since long
Sipped each left-over droplet with much satisfaction

The Earth like a caring mother is the last to relish the relief
Awaited with much patience to balm her pain utterly deep
The Sky knowing the sacrificial nature of his darling
Turned his liquid love to a torrent from a deliberate drizzling
The trees danced and sang in a great trance
The roads turned to canals of molten romance
That washed away the dirt and worries from the Earth's face
For a moment she looked refreshed and full of hope and grace
