thanks for the poet note. yes, i suppose some mom's think every day is a blessed mother's day. [at least until the kid is sprouting-teeth-but-still-breastfeeding, or a terrible two-year-old, or a 'tween, or a teen, or a young man or woman returning to the nest to roost and mooch! ]
i was actually thinking last night (?) that making just ONE day a year the day (anniversary) to celebrate a marital union was not quite 'right'. first, if the marriage is strong and happy (or close enough) the pair should feel like they are celebrating it every day. second, if only one day a year is the one, it makes for an uncomfortable situation IF that one day (or week) happens to be a rough one in the marriage. know what i mean! ? the same could apply to Mother's Day.
i really enjoy the story and the rhyming, especially rest/confessed.

at the end i did think the move from:
I’m giving you just one last chance to explain away.
to:
Of course, I knew you were making me breakfast on Mother’s Day.
was abrupt. i wanted to hear something in between those two lines. OR have a break of a skipped line at least, to imply that the little rascal HAD explained (that she/he was fixing breakfast) . then the mom would respond that she knew it all the time! wink, wink.
thanks for sharing 'mom'. bri :) :) it deserves to join MyPoemList. ok, it did.
