Modesty Guarded Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

Modesty Guarded

To fall in love with you is my desire.
To have you sense that I am after you
And to have you give clues that you know it
Was my intention and it went off well.

Your behaviours gave me enough clues
That you know my love, that you didn't reject.
Absence of repulsion is acceptance.
Acceptance of love is love requited.

Love in disguise, I could behave with you.
Love being withheld, you can contact me.
I could find pleasure in desiring you.
Granted to love, I love and get pleasure.

Receiving love from a person at par
Cannot go without a pleasant effect.
With no trace that you encouraged my love
You will have guarded your fidelity.
