Mitzvah Day Poem by Grant House

Mitzvah Day

In our contract with Universe
Of which by definition we are a part
The principle commitment
Some say commandment
Right from the very start

The covenant agreed to by each and every one of us
Way before our birth
Says leave the world better than you found it
Be helpful, kind, understanding
Do your best to live a life of worth

People want to express their unity
Around the globe and right here in this land
When they turn out to repair the world
Give assistance, guidance, gifts
Lift the spirits of those who need a hand

The blessings flow both ways
Helpers are likewise blessed
A mitzvah day is a good deeds day
It really could be all our days
Makes things better
Helps us be, do, and feel our best
