Mirror Poem by Anne Yun

Mirror

Rating: 5.0

You are there
Grasp my abstenting eyes
To the names of the past
To the names of the future
And say-
'Look at me!
Look at me!
You are here!
In my eyes! '

The French poet Jean Cocteau wrote a wonderful pun on mirrors, and since French and English share a common vocabulary, this poem works in both languages: MIRRORS SHOULD REFLECT A LITTLE BEFORE CASTING BACK IMAGES. And voila! LOVE IS TO SEARCH FOR THE FINEST MIRROR AND THEN LIVE IN EACH OTHER'S EYES. That is the beating heart of romantic love which appears like flight but is really solidly based in a common identity.

Someone told me that love is to put the other always ahead of yourself, i think this thought is the little reflection the mirrors of the beloved eyes should do before casting back images!

Like the cellophane thin sliver of tissue that sits embedded on a microscope slide, some momentous something rendered visible by the almost nothingness of what is chosen to represent it, so this poem elucidates with a glimpse of art that which is much greater than what appears here. The irony that the smallness of the sample, the greatness of the whole could not be appreciated. So I sit here, having glimpsed into your mirror, wondering why did your eyes avert? Whose names give meaning to your future and your past? What do you see when you look into the eyes looking at you? Do you see more of the one who beholds you, or more of yourself? Or do you see something over the horizon of sight of either of you? Intriguing work, Anne, and very enjoyable to contemplate, as always.

Thank you Neal, i really appreciate your comment. I tried to write down things in a simplest way with meanings i want to express. Every one can be a mirror for the 'me', but i believe someone can be the finest mirror to connect me with the past and the future, for me, love is to search for the finest mirror then live in each other's eyes.
