Mine Child Poem by Yemisi Caster

Mine Child

Weep not mine child
For thou art tender and mild
Rise up dearest, wipe thine eyes
Give in not to sorrows and it's lies

A long life lies ahead of thee
Many sorrows thou will still see
Nevertheless, let thy fears be thy might
And chasteness be thy light

Though thou art burdened with despair
Forget not thy sweet smile to share
Give others a piece of thy self to remember
While to thine fate thou surrender

Life is short mine dear child
Even in its brevity, evil lurks on every side
Brace thyself against their arrows and darts
And guide thine innocent fragile heart

Listen mine sweet child, listen
only to mine words should thou hearken
At all times show forth thine kindness
Forget not to add a little goodness

Be strong always
Love, nonetheless, all thine days
For even if all else fails
Thine actions of past shall be all that bails.
