I've devoured my emotions
Instead of swallowing my pride
I've fed on the weak ones
& crawled in carcasses to hide
I've then buried in a burrow
Like a mole
Not wanting to appear
I've caught myself in headlights
Like an innocent deer
I've counted up my losses
Making up more each time
I've cuffed my own wrists
& sentenced my own crimes
I've put my thoughts in shackles
Heavier than my body
& threw away the key
Signing off my estate
To the powers that be
I've done it all
& gave it all
But so much I haven't too
I'd give it all again
Making no amends
Like humans
