He definitely had a soft spot in his heart for that little slave girl! He commends her to his deceased parents, because he still thinks of them. He knows they would enjoy the company of an adorable girl. Thus this poem expresses a sense of loss on top of loss.
Yes, it seems the normally acidic Martial had a soft side, after all.
