I’m a man who likes marriage, though it doesn’t always like me.
I’m in my fourth (three divorces): may be my last; we’ll see.
Marriage is a tumble. Sometimes I stumble, may even have rumble.

In spite of your familiar, delightful jocular tone, there is a lot of plain wisdom in this poem. You emphasize several times that marriage involves negotiations over such things as money, pastimes, duties, etc. And there is an overall sense of respect for your partner or there will be negative results. I'm divorced but I don't consider my a loser. I took that marriage as far as it could go - If I hadn't broken off the marriage, it would have broken me. Hey, I could write a poem on this. Your mix of truth and humor in this one inspires to do something!
A real good ending, Bri! I suggest you can also say at times: I'm sorry and You are forgiven. And, since it was for better or worse most marriages are still in tack! Well done!
Great write. Absolutely loved this poem - so true! This year was our 37th year of marriage and we're still going strong. We're best friends and totally honest with one another about everything. We never let the sun set on our anger. We're total opposites and that can be fun or difficult, but compromise is the word. You're correct about marriage being for better or worse, we've been through both. Kids and pets are an added joy - most of the time. Forgiveness is always instant, there's no sense in being mad, it takes away the joy in life.

Hello Bri what a lovely way of looking at marriage i think maybe you are getting the hang of this marriage thing. What is it they say practice makes perfect
You are right Bri, many are just pretending to be made for each other. Leave aside the fancy of perfection. Marriage is 90 percent of tolerance [ read as compromise ] and 10 percent of happiness [ read as day dreaming ] and further readings into it is a woman`s aspirations at no cost. Thank you for being funny and not at all flimsy..
i have a long way to pass as i told you bri. May God help me. Matrimony requires patient. And also a two sides understanding. But thats a nice experience! Very good.
a mammoth in summer seoson. ish you are just, what a poem. a poet will never be out of word but here iam out of marrg door scared and wanting to come in and share
Bri... You are a limit! So very funny.... will make anyone laugh... I often thought that if people have a sense of humour... they won't be 'itchy' and that their relationships will be enduring... but now I understand that I am sadly mistaken! Marriage is not an easy game... it requires mammoth levels of tolerance to keep it going! |
Hahahaha what a poem this is..... I remember Socrates said that get marry by all means, if you get good wife you are blessed and if you have bad wife, you will become a philosopher........ Now tell us Mr bri. What are you? A blessed one or a philosopher....
