New Zealand's best novel is, I think, John Mulgan's 'Man Alone'
which still speaks to us, as there are many rugged types around
like Johnson, the hero, a 1930s itinerant farm worker & survivor.
I taught the novel long ago but I have never lost the plot.

In one of your earlier poems too you have put across the gist of the novel's plot. I can say it with confidence that some books become a part of our life.
