Mama's Love Poem by Tatyough Terungwa Thomas

Mama's Love

Mama's tears, they fall like rain
As Daddy's anger reigns,
I hide beneath the bed, so small,
Listening to sounds that make me fall.

The Screams, the shouts, the crashing floor,
My heart beats fast, I want it to stop
Mama's Cries, they pierce my soul,
I wish I could make it whole.

Daddy's hands, they hurt her so,
Leave bruises that no one should know,
Mama's smile, it fades away,
As daddy's rage comes out to play.

I want to help to save her pain,
But I am just small and powerless to gain,
The strength to stop this endless night,
To keep mama safe from this cruel might.

One night, the sounds, they cease,
I emerge to a tragic release.
Mama lies still, her eyes closed tight
Daddy's tanger took her final light.

My world shatters, my heart does break,
Mama's gone and I am left to ache
The memories of her loving smile,
Now tainted with this violent guile.

I am left alone, with tears to cry.
Wondering why, am asking why,
Did Daddy's love not keep her safe?
Why did Mama's love not keep her safe?
