Make You Understand Poem by Kerri White

Make You Understand

Rating: 5.0

I’ve been running far too long
Trying to reiterate
What he could never evaluate-
His words mean nothing to himself
(Yet he expects me to swallow them?)
Like he knew the truth behind all the metaphors.
I’m not convinced he wasn’t just thinking…
And wishin’ there was some meaning
Behind his own literal confusion.
And he swears he knows
Everything…
Everything about me I’ve never even known.
How can you define the pity
You’ve never shown anyone except yourself?
I’ve told you
Sometimes it’s gotta be for me,
Not you, though you think it should be
Since that’s how it’s always been.
I’m confined to myself,
And yes I know I did it all,
But it only took you
To make me uncomfortable
In my own skin,
And there’s no where left for me to fall..
‘Cause if I go any lower
There won’t be any pieces left to pick up
If I hate you any harder
There won’t be any chance we’re ever gonna make up
I’ve gotta ride in the opposite direction
Gotta make my mind right
Without taking you into account at all..
That’s mean, but it’s fair
And I’m just trying to smile again.
You say it’s all
A little more than you can bear
But how about all those times
You took your shots at me?
Now it’s reached my vitality
And I’m a little passed ready to resolve this.
So you ride into your own sunset…
I’d rather stay here and dissolve in mine.
If you’re not it for me, I’m not it for you
And I’m just trying to make you understand.
