Make This Work Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

Make This Work

Been in and out of love many times-
More times than a dove could have missed its roost-
Must have heard dozens and dozens of lines
But you accepted the very ones that lacked boost

And here again you are hooked
Half a joke, and half a wonder
For away you have not looked;
Over your toasters you still ponder

Why do you keep your chances open?
Do you not believe in this future?
Why not defend this token
And secure your suture?

Although a token, 'tis a seed
Sow it and watch it grow:
In the days of hunger you will feed
And atop it will you be rescued from foe

But the foundation is faulty
What shall the righteous do?
Of his trust you are not worthy
For you still hide your pooh!

Yet has he brought you joy
And only asks that you add to his honour
Cease being coy
And make this work
