geeta, thank you for more about gandhi i was not familiar with. i wonder if carrying the dead and wounded was part of what made him committed to ahimsa. and i'd guess this volunteer service had some positive effect on the british attitude toward him. you may know from the words of jesus, he who would be first must be servant of all. all the best to you. glen kappy
