Lust Luve Lost Poem by Afolabi Oyerinde

Lust Luve Lost

In the deepest sea,
In the melting snow,
In the vales, underneath...
In the melting atmospheric
Elements, on the Milky Way,
True luve I find no more!

When the tempest blew
Blew away the luve built
Built with my bloody sweat
Sweat of sorrow and joy
Joy that is all lost
Lost in the unknown world
World of hates and regrets
True luve I find no more!

True luve I find no more
Forever, it is gone
Never will fall I in luve
As irritating as cow dung--
No more luve. We live
In a wicked world--
Where hatred thrives
And luve is all but lust...
A forgotten dream of
A true, grateful mind
True luve I find no more!

Lost is my heart--
In the lustful mountains.
Luve again have I not
Lust I peddle around like
Unripe àgbálùmọ̀ oranges --
Sour, acidic, tasteless...
I'm lost in the saddest
World of filthy lust
True luve I find no more!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem, Lust Luve Lost, revolves around the theme of love and loneliness. The poetic persona is deserted by lover and a journey of love seems sour and acrid to the poetic persona. Rather than give all that it takes to live with a true mind, the poetic persona's partner prefers to engage in illicit sexual activities and is enraptured by lust of money. Unfortunately, the people around the poetic persona couldn't but revile, reproach and betray the persona is people in the Twenty-first Century would.
