Lunch Time Poem by Richard D Remler

Lunch Time

...............

Tommy Ebbs brought peas today-
And whole wheat toasted bread.
There were pickles in his applesauce,
From what Tommy said.
And he makes a great big sandwich
When the lunchtime bell rings out-
And he eats it up quite hungrily,
Like a good old Ranger Scout.

Edwinn brought a biscuit -
Just a biscuit, nothing more.
And he sits under the Elder Tree
Near his Home-Room door,
Tossing pieces of his biscuit
To the pigeons on the grass.
Tossing oh-so-slowly
Just to make his biscuit last.

Mary brought egg salad,
And a roll of english cheese.
She has a thermos filled with prune juice,
And some crunchy black-eyed peas.
And for dessert a marshmallow
That she dips in her lemon tea.
And that's all right, I suppose.
Cuzz it doesn't matter much to me.

Hildy brought some tuna fish,
A salad and some soup,
Something green and something crunchy
That can loop a loop-de-doop.
And chocolate milk with pretzels
That she dips in strawberry jam.
And you can smell her lunch from as
Far away as North-South-East Siam!

Billy brought a donut,
And a cracker with some cheese.
But Billy never touches it,
Because all he does is sneeze!
He will achoo to you, and you,
Then salute without a care,
So the pigeons eat his donut
As if he wasn't even there.

And me, I'm nothing special,
And I find no need to boast.
All I brought was some bologna
Wrapped inside a bit of toast.
And an olive from the kitchen,
The green kind that taste real sour.
And I nibble on it leisurely
For the best part of an hour.
