.........all the ingredients are here for an explosive... and dangerous type of love.....which usually leads to a crime of passion.....with someone having bullets through their head.....

That full stop shouldn't be there indeed. But I think it somehow underlines the words about their love, markes them out. Without the first line the whole verse becomes the senseless SM-abracadabra. So it's quite reasonable to make them noticeable in this way. Even if this is a mistake of formatting, it is an apropriate mistake indeed.

I love this poem. However, the formatting of this submitted poem is wrong. There should not be a full stop at the end of the first line.

Any cruelty here consists of commenting on the poet rather than the poem, and nobody commits another person's suicide. More than that, I have been unable to get this poem out of my mind, the agony and the wonder of pure chemistry. Who has not had a relationship like this or had one that evolved into this? On one hand the agony is immense but the ecstacy more so, such that you will accept any amount of toxicity, ignoring the good sense of self, friends and family for years or even unto death.

Ted hughes is a tool who closed the oven door on a greater poet's head.

Lovesong is an original poem in my view, for the reasons can be numerous. It uses the third person in an imaginative way. It begins well and with distinction, giving us a list of lovely statements, giving us an exercise of love, just like a song of love. What I like about ‘Lovesong’ is that the language is spectacular in its common usage of terminology, the very words employed to describe a good love affair. It is clever to show the two lovers in the right permutation and also combination! The stanza breaks still are perfect, and they are sound. It is useful of him to use alliteration in such a marvellous manner. The repetition is intelligent, and keeps coolness and structure. The metaphor has much demonstration in this poem. In my opinion it is special to end a poem with such words as ‘In the morning they wore each other’s face’, because it shows how faithful they have been in their whole life. Thus a song has been a song - a lovesong.

I love this poem. I am currntley in English 12 and I had to do a report on Ted Hughes and a few of the poems he wrote. This one was my first choice. I love the love that he portrays in this writing. He is brilliant.

A vivid portrayal of love, its passion and its consequences... causing love to come apart completely or bind so tightly that two become eternally one.

im 17 and studying a selection of poems by ted hughes for my AS! i really am disgusted by how narrow minded my fellow classmates are at it an how immature people can be! ! this man has truly discovered the definition of love in my eyes when i never though it possible! ! this poem as well as 'Bride and Groom lie hidden for three days' have shown me how deeply i really feel for my partner an i can completely relate with hughes through these words! ! ! ! ! i cant find reason in peoples disgust at this sort of poetry! some people are so narrow minded dont they see that this truly is art?

'He loved her and she loved Him' I find so much in the poem. First the above quote explains it all...the poem shows all the peices of real love. How we second guess each action, touch and movement. Also how when we give are love to another we give them a part of us. We become the one we love and they become us. I feel that a person can relate so much with the angst and spirit of this poem. This has got to be one of the most beautiful poems I've ever read... its dark yet delicious, its painful but passionate, its slightly disturbing in an exciting way... yet every single action in the poem, regardless of how you react to them, never shy away from the main theme 'love'...
