We play our game again,
You and I.
Could you love again?
With a smile.

I love this poem 'So laugh with me again, And play our little game, And hug me every day And kiss me when I ask, For only God can say Which day will be our last.' to laugh in love, to enjoy simple things, made rich and meaningful because simple life experiences are shared with those we love, those who live in true love are blessed, true love appreciates, suffers all things, appreciates, plays games of love kindness appreciation every day, Yes I love the energy and sentiments of this poem, and am presently smiling, we live today, in love and joy today; why darken our horizons with problems past or yet to come, love heals uplifts blesses and this poem is a blessing. Live ever with a sparkle of love and kindness in your eyes Seamus.
'Would I love again? And deep inside A melancholy chord replies, What is love? A word so often frivolous Of friends and dogs And ice cream cones.' the wonder of small pleasures 'Upon me shines your smile Like the sun upon my soul. Our hearts are so entwined That only with you am I whole. Your joy and peace and happiness The very breath within my chest.' the rich pleasures of true love savoured another wonderful write Seamus
Thank you, Terry. This one was fun to write, years back, written in the pleasant bubble of a newly minted marriage. It is even more interesting now to return to its lines after the perspective of years and feel the freshness of the sentiments. Thanks for the read, my friend, and the encouraging thoughts.
I just love this poem. It pours out just like you describe. Like Judith, your writing took my breath away. This kind of love is so special and these kinds of memories blanket us at night and hold us together.
wonderful words sir. this smacks of Yeats' rhythm and sharp questions, that we only ask at night when we are alone. glad to see some talent on PH. keep on. bp

I love this poem! In touches me on so many levels. I enjoy your work Neal. Thanks for sharing
This is a mature poem for a matured reader. I don't mean that facetiously, because so many responses to the issues you raise concerning love and fidelity ARE unworthy. I'm thinking in particular of TV scripts or many movie scripts, and comedy routines that mock everything. But your poem disguises its seriousness in its nimble poetic language (which is admirable all by itself!) , and before we realize we have experienced a lasting love endure through doubt and dismay and even reach that moment when the partners have to consider their mortality. I love the turning point in your poem about stanza 4 UPON ME YOUR SMILES SHINES / LIKE THE SUN UPON MY SOUL. That is the image that carries the weight of the poem for me, and I will carry it in my memory.
It is truly what it is... Lovers' game indeed.... Honest....beautiful write!
Thanks, Phoenix! Happy New Year to you! Be blessed. Seamus
